Back in May'18, out of the blue, a few long term Asturian emigrants based in the U.K. discussed about this issue. Today, more than 14.6K people all around Europe support us.

We demand the Asturian Regional Government to immediately act in order to facilitate the restoration of the 14 years operating route Asturias-London Stansted.

We demand that all the public tenders and contracts that the Regional Government is about to sign and/or launch enhance and promote free and fare competition and not the contrary.

We speak out against the existent IAG Group monopoly operating the routes Asturias-Madrid, Asturias-Barcelona and from October'18, when EasyJet stops operating its flights to Stansted, Asturias-London.

Why London Stansted:
Facts

We do not demand a London Stansted - Asturias connection on a whim or because of private interest.

Our demand is based on objective, real and compeling facts, such as occupancy rates.

Asturias, its people, Asturian SMEs, Asturian emigrants (in U.K. and all around Europe) and all the foreign businesses and tourists that have established all kind of bonds and bridges with Asturias during the last 14 years, we ALL can not be deprived of this route.

Londres Stansted allow us to connect with more than 185 low cost international destinations both, in Europe and worldwide.

Crucially, we will not be able to do it from October 2018, but the Asturian Government can and must do everything in its power to resolve this important matter and restore the London Stansted- Asturias route.

Our Platform

Our aim is to make the politicians and the general public aware about the catastrophic consecuentes of not being connected to the Low Cost Num.1 Hub in Europe: London Stansted. We urge the Regional Government to do everything in their power to restore this route.

We speak out about the fact that the 3 main routes to/from Asturias will be in monopoly of the Iberia Group when the regional Government imminently renews its current contract with Iberia, and Easyjet stops operating the London Stansted route in October this year (already announced).

We speak out against the fact that all the airports in northern Spain have grown more and have established considerably more international connections than Asturias airport.

We demand that all the public tenders and contracts that the Regional Government are about to sign and/or launch enhance and promote free and fare competition and not the contrary.

As well, we urge the Asturian Government to establish more practical and profitable international routes which must be suitable for the economic and touristic development of our region. We all need it.

➤ London Stansted Airport provides more than 190 international low cost destinations including New York, Washington DC, Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Dubai and Norway in 2018.

➤ Emirates has opened a strategic London gateway in Stansted. Hong Kong, Dubai, Shanghai, Singapore and Mumbai are the most popular business destinations which are served daily by Emirates' Dubai hub. Leisure travellers can enjoy direct, daily services to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Bali and the Indian Ocean Islands. Primera Air and WOW offer daily connections within America and Canada.

➤ London Stansted's more immediate plans are to establish routes with new markets such as India and China.

➤ London Stansted will be the fastest growing airport serving the capital in 2018, expecting to reach 43 million passengers before 2020.

➤ More than 25 of the world’s largest corporations have established operations in the wider Cambridge-London corridor, such as Airbus, GSK and Astra Zeneca. Such businesses have helped establish the London Stansted Cambridge Corridor as one of the top five global knowledge regions, alongside world-leading San Francisco, Silicon Valley and Boston.

24.496 technological companies, employing more than 210.000 people and a turnover of £36.5 billion.

➤ Asturian emigrants all around Europe, their families and tourists use low cost airlines in order to travel to/from Asturias. By far, they all prefer London Stansted airport rather than the other London airports. See data here.

➤ Small and Medium size companies use low cost airlines due to their cost effective.

➤ Asturian education system and Erasmus program use London Stansted Airport for the same above reasons.

Just Language Kingdom on its own (Asturian company) moves more than 4.500 students through London Stansted for its languages courses held abroad every year. These students will have to travel from other airports in the future, like Santander. Alternative routes from Asturias Airport won't be cost effective, as Ramón Villa, Language Kingdom CEO has confirmed.

➤ Stansted is, without any doubt, the London Airport with the most clean and efficient design. The transit from "arrivals" to the train or bus station, takes a mere 2 minutes, which is very relevant when you travel with kids and/or luggage. The journey to London city centre and/or the rest of the country, served by Stansted Train Station itself by direct connections, is direct and smooth.

Victoria Line (Underground, Zone 3) can be reached in 35 minutes. Liverpool Street Station can be reached in 47 minutes. This is a 24/7 service. Tickets costs only £7 if booked in advanced.

Not having access to the low cost network that London Stansted offers is an utter disgrace for all the SEMs, the tourism, the Asturian economy, the emigrants all around Europe, and for all the foreign people who established business and personal ties in Asturias for the last 14 years.

Both, businesses and the general public, need frequent and reliable international routes as the London Stansted route, but above all, fares should be affordable and connections must be in operation all year long.

In order to achieve this, it is mandatory that no monopoly should be in operation in the main routes in Asturias airport: London, Madrid and Barcelona
